Products certified to this standard must biodegrade at least 90% within 180 days under commercial composting conditions, leave no toxic residues, and not adversely affect the composting process. Compostable bags are typically made from PBAT/PLA blends or cornstarch-based films. Home compostable options exist in this format and are more widely available than in rigid categories. At those volumes, the unit cost advantage over buying locally can be substantial (often 30–50%), but you're committing to significant inventory and tying up working capital.
